That name sounds familiar.... oh yeah...

Why anyone wants the government to get bigger I will never understand.

We are doomed.

And I have a pacifier for Mr Dodd if he needs something to suck on.

Yes, anyone can clearly see by flying over the Koreas at night the greatness that Pelosi's minions envisions for us comrade! The rolling hills of prosperity in Cuba are there for all to see. Greece is lighting the torch of sustainable socialism... lol.

Let's take the only system proven to work and figure out a way to vilify it.

Let's take the systems that have proven to result in starvation and murder of millions of people and try to make it hip on college campuses.

The fact that even one person would follow the latter path is proof that we are doomed as a people, a nation, and a species.

That is why I gave up trying to save the world and even opening one mind... it's pointless. I am currently making the hobby transition from political satire to survival preparation.

It's coming.... I just hope I have a chance to potty train my son before I have to teach him marksmanship and self defense.

Now back to dancing with the stars and angry birds.

I have a good friend with a nice compound in northern VT. Hopefully I won't have to retreat to there too soon.
I do worry about my kids futures, it is a quite sad situation we are in.

Well I am in florida so all I can do is stock up on rounds and watch a lot of zombie movies because that is what it will be like here as I make my way north. I will certainly not take the main roads though... I google mapped safe routes out of here. You may laugh but zombie movies have taught me a lot of things like avoiding population dense areas and always taking head shots.

I think this is the last hoorah for america... if the big o gets elected again, that would by default negate the purge of congress and escalate the end. If they have full reign it will be time to report your guns stolen and drop off the grid which I am not prepared for at this time.

If, however, the republicrats sweep the whitehouse, house, and senate... it buys me enough time to finish school and relocate the family... got my eye on vermont. Open carry, medical maryjane, THE coolest license tag (LIVE FREE OR DIE).

Florida is right to work, concealed carry state with low taxes and you can get your birth certificate or a replacement drivers license in about 15 minutes (compare this to CA or NY) so I hate leaving a red state and dealing with income tax and stupid shit like I had to deal with back in NJ, but when the shit hits the fan this place is doomed on many levels (not even considering sea level, which I am currently below as I type this).

On to New England!

We both know it won't be the guy with the crooked nose. And the powers that be would never let obama have to stand on a stage and debate newt without a teleprompter. Even the clinton supporters will have a problem with newts personal life.

They will never let Paul win because of the military industrial complex and all the money in perpetuating endless wars.

It will be Romney because its simply romneys turn. Remember, this is the lesser of two evils we are taking about here. The difference between republicans and democrats are the letters used to spell the words. One can stop the bleeding and the other will cut open the wound faster.

If Romney wins, i get 4 more years to prepare, if obama wins the clock starts ticking. First the dollar will fall, then like dominoes all the comforts of modern life will start to fail. Even if we avoid socioeconomic collapse somehow, social unrest of various sorts will increase. Clean water, oil, food, living space, food stamps, welfare checks, and every other modern commodity will be depleted at some point.

When the have nots riot and boil over into the streets of the haves, people will finally understand the 2nd amendment. All the bleeding hearts in their ivory towers will be the first course in the feeding frenzy of the urban meltdown. Hopefully the gated communities and strict gun restrictions wills stop murderous hordes from raping and murdering men women and children...

I am starting to think that complete collapse is the only chance for restoration of the original concept of our founding fathers. If socialism keeps nibbling at the edges of the fabric of this nation, like frogs in slow boiling water we will not jump out. Only if the bubbles are rumbling and we are dropped in do we have a split second chance to jump out with just blisters.

If we do become a socialist country I certainly don't want to live in it. And that brings us back to the new hampshire license plate misquote i made.

I don't know why on earth your would travel north through the great population centers to get to ...Vermont? Get ready for a long winter and a short growing season and iffy soil. Stay in the swamps of Georgia or off one the islands there.

Here is what I refer to as my Mandojammer question. It happens. It all falls apart and it's ugly. You and your family are doing O.K.. A small child, dirty, alone, and staving comes across your path and asks for food. What do you do? If you give any of the little resources away that you have, well it makes your chances much slimmer for you and your family. I think this, more then the hunger crazed pack of 'zombies', is what you will face.
And this is definitely not a trick question.

The cold is the thing that will keep most from following me. Almost all my ancestors come from the land of the ice and snow so that is my strategy. I don't plan on it being easy, I plan on being one the last people left alive to protect my family. The ice age was the best thing to happen to europe and so again it will be for culling the herd.

I don't plan on taking 95 through baltimore DC, phily, etc.... I'll be a little further west of the coast on foot most likely... no point in driving off in nice tempting gas powered vehicle (watch war of the worlds) and it certainly wont be road warrior with a tanker of spare gas to use. Gasoline stops working after a while... keeping a gas engine for long term use without a machine shop and power and mechanic skills is a waste of time.

As for Georgia, not a place I want to be during social unrest any more than florida. Yes they have mountains and I will visit them on my way north but im looking for low population density, tree cover, and fresh water with a discouraging climate so every thug in the world doesnt stop on by to visit my wife and kids while im out hunting.

The warmer areas and cities will draw the naive weak and evil strong. The cities will be kill zones, when the weakest are raped and murdered by the unsavory elements in the cities they will turn to the suburbs looking for booty (both treasure and ass). Some will resist and only the baddest of the bad will be left in those population centers. Once the food stores and potable water become depleted or rancid they will be combing the countryside looking for nice old farmer people rob and kill. They will not be able to sustain the farms or ration out the food stores they steal and this will only temporarily quench their hunger. Next they pillage the surrounding countryside and anyone in an obviously desirable place with access to game and water will need to defend it against unknown numbers. Unless you have a ton of powder and a reloader eventually you will run out of bullets.

Like rasta said, the small child could be a trap. If I had extra food (which there is no such thing in a post SHTF world) i would not let them starve but you'd have to be damn sure there was not some unsavory folks using the child as bait to ambush you. I might watch the kid from a distance for a long time to make sure they were alone. If the kid was not a trap or decoy and could gather fire wood and not get us killed I'd probably take them in to.

The most valuable things to have after obama's reelection will be skills and hands. Sewing, herbal medicine, plant identification, hunting/fishing, shelter building, etc. Anyone who can shoot, use hand tools, chop wood, hunt, or fish is an asset to your group. I am also trying to research medicinal cures and other survival tactics that my native ancestors practiced up in canada, they survived pale faces and everything in the freezing cold. If that doesn't work I can resort to my norse tactics....

If you begin picking up children (or child), it most likely will be the end of your family- unless you have resources up the wazoo. My question is meant to illect the only response which is no to the kid (I assumed, but ought to have stated that the child was not used as a trap). That awful ruthlessness required is what the veneer of our civilization affords us not to even really consider. Morality and civility would be in great flux with the absolute best and worst (mostly worst) displayed, as you indicate.

I hope the AT is not your road north as it will be filled with people. The East Coast in general is dicey business. Also, supplies. Through hikers on the AT go through several pairs of boots for example. 1,500 miles means you can not carry all the supplies you need which would have to include winter clothing. Viking mode, of course, eliminates this requirement. Finally, it would be extremely hard for a small child or baby to complete that journey.

I would include someone who has farmed successfully (and who has seeds), as after year one that will be critical. Also, a like minded family or persons w/ skills as there is strength in numbers.

God, may it never come to this.

I'd be very careful to see if the child was a lure by others. If not, and if he looked tasty, I'd cook 'em up for dinner - Just kidding! I'd probably take him in.

would be good to include solar panels, a good water purifier, night vision goggles, crossbow. For a while, at least, it would be good to have a minimum infared heat signature.

I've heard quite a few good interviews on this subject on Coast to Coast late night radio show.

If it all goes down, it will be like a prison planet & savage nation. ;) We will survive!

All the above is good to have anywho, my city slicker friends

Oh and I plan on getting the land up there asap and slowing making my way north anyway. If I don't have the land already I may even consider a large national park or other wilderness along the way. Finding a place other like minded people are not already eyeballing is tricky.... they say there are strength in numbers but in this scenario I want to stay in as small and unnoticed of a group as possible.

I will have a secret handshake though... and lots of seeds to plant.
